Test Drive Tips

Its time to buy your next car, but where do you start? A test drive is a great place to start. Not sure how to take a test drive? You’re in luck!

We’ve assembled 4 tips on what to do before and during a test drive at any used car dealership.

Tip 1: Make an appointment.

Calling ahead will allow you to make sure that your vehicle is still available. They might even put a hold on the car for you if you ask. This will ensure that your time is not wasted driving around town to look at vehicles that are already sold.

Tip 2: Test all of the car’s features.

Get a real feel for the brakes, the steering wheel and how the car moves around bends and curves. Be sure to try out the stereo and A/C as well. Don’t just jump into the first hot rod your eyes are attracted to. The practicality of the vehicle is your number one priority! Pay attention to any squeaks or abnormal sounds when you drive. You need a functional car!

Tip 3: Test the car’s capability.

Taking a test drive in the rain isn’t the most convenient, but it does give you an idea of how the car will handle the rain and wind. Also make sure the wipers are working well!

Doing a little research on a specific vehicle or style of vehicles before taking a test drive will also help you be prepared. There is tons of great information on the internet.

Tip 4: Shop around for the perfect car.

When the test drive is over, don’t be too eager to jump into numbers when it comes to price. Play your cards well, and tell the salesman you will consider the model as you will be seeking at other dealerships for the better deal. Many salesman will say anything to get you to buy a car, so make you sure you are in control. Don’t be in a rush to buy a car; take your time to find the perfect car for you.

That’s 4 tips on test driving a used car! Good luck and be safe out on the road!
